Westgate Oxford Summer 2022 Decor

A major shopping centre in Oxford City Centre, Westgate Oxford is a multi-storey complex remodelled and extended between 2016 and 2017. On our many day trips to Oxford, we used this as the base as there is a huge car park in the basement. You can then access the high street, city and university buildings from here, exploring Oxford on foot.

The two previous times we were in Westgate was for lunch and to meet up with friends. Our first was at the roof top bar and dining area where you find many restaurants. We chose Sticks N Sushi. On our second visit, we went to Le Pain Quotidien, a bakery and restaurant. This time however, we just wanted to take in the sights and enjoy some window shopping. We weren’t disappointed.

The Summer of 2022

The management had put in a lot of effort in making the place fresh and exciting with covered seating areas, sculptures and hanging decors. There we found two giant sculptures of balloon dogs doing downward and upward dog, hanging tricycle with cargo box and balloons and open spaces. I am sure these would have all been changed according to the season. As I am writing this, I am thinking autumn or even Christmas decorations. But, we have captured them all here in the photos we share with you.

Suspended/Floating Cargo Tricycles with Balloons

In the atrium of the South Arcade hang cargo tricycles topped with balloons (see image below). There are quite a few of these and they are best viewed from the upper floor. Thanks to the large open space and skylight, they look amazing.

Stretching Balloon Dog Sculptures

A pair of red and yellow balloon dog sculptures grace the grass carpeted open space area known as Leiden Square. The pair is sponsored by Castle Fine Art. They are the Yellow Balloon Dog in downward dog stretching pose and Red Balloon Dog in upward dog stretching pose. Next to that is an open space with deck chairs for shoppers and visitors to just sit and relax.

Horsebox Coffee Trailer in Leiden Square

Just beyond the artificial grass carpeted area, near under the escalator is a horsebox trailer cafe. Next to it are parasol covered picnic bench and tables. Here’s where you can take a break from shopping, sipping coffee or tea and enjoy your favourite cake.
