The area of outstanding beauty is enclosed and managed to preserve its wildlife and protected by the law.
There is a barb wire fence around the central pond area but you get plenty of space to roam around the point. The South West Coast (walking) Path runs on the left side of the pond. From a distance, you will see plenty of birds on the island and in the water. Come here with a pair of binoculars and do a spot of bird watching.
How to Get There
From Hayle, take the B3301, the St Gothian Sands Nature Reserve is on the left just after the small town of Gwithian. As soon as you pass the Glencoe Nursing Home, you will be greeted by a beautiful vista of the small lake and island. There are parking spaces by the road, but there is a dedicated and safe off road parking area on the right, on the approach to the reserve.
Search for St Gothian Sands Nature Reserver or Hayle TR27 5ED on Google Maps.
If you missed this or the limited parking spaces are taken, continue until you see the sign to The Rockpool Seafood Cafe Bar and Grill. Turn left into the lane straight after this, signposted to Godvery National Trust. You can park in the Godvery National Trust Car Park with a small fee and take the steps down the sand dune and cross the Red River to the Reserve. You can also access the Gwithian Beach from here, see location map at the bottom.
