The bigger of the two canal basins in the Borough of Islington. The City Road Canal Basin is just after the City Road Lock (Lock 5) on the Regent’s Canal.
Opened in 1820, it is now owned and managed by the Canal and River Trust. A huge regeneration programme that started in 2004 repurposed Canal and City Road Basin. It is now home to several large-scale residential properties. Public access was provided in 2009 and the basin is used for canoeing by the Islington Boat Club.
Here are photos of the City Road Basin and ultra modern residential developments in the area.
