In the vibrant SouthGate area of Bath, Comptoir Libanais brings the rich flavours of Lebanese cuisine to your table in a welcoming and colourful setting. If you’re dining as a small group of two or three, our guide will help you experience nearly everything on their menu. With a little strategy, you can savour a variety of dishes without missing the best of what Comptoir Libanais has to offer.
This is not our first visit. We have been to the Comptoir Libanais and reviewed it some years back. You can see what we ordered back then and how this is now different in presentation and portions.
Enjoy Over Two Thirds of the Food Menu in One Seating
Here is what you need to order:
- Mezze Platter for Two
- Mixed Grill (or larger portion)
- Baklava Selection
Remember to ask for the Mezze Platter and Mixed Grill to come together. That way you get to enjoy them as mains and sides, sharing them between two or three in your group. The Mezze Platter is the bigger of the two options on offer. As for the Mixed Grill, this can be sized up ‘sized up’ or made larger for an extra fiver. Our standard portion comes with one lamb kofta, three three Lebanese chicken wings and three chicken taouk, the right amount for the three of us.
Mezze Platter for Two
Kick off your meal with the Mezze Platter, a delightful assortment of Lebanese starters that cater to all taste preferences. Perfect for sharing, this platter includes:
- Hommos (Vegan): A creamy classic chickpea dip served with warm flatbread.
- Baba Ghanuj (Vegan): Smoky aubergine blended with tahina, ideal for dipping.
- Quinoa Tabbouleh (Gluten-Free, Vegan): A refreshing salad of parsley, quinoa, tomato, mint, and onion, dressed with lemon and olive oil.
- Falafel (2) (Vegan): Crisp chickpea patties flavored with coriander and parsley, finished with tahina sauce.
- Cheese Samboussek (Vegetarian): Melted cheese and mint encased in flaky pastry.
- Labné: A creamy, tangy yogurt dip.
- Pickles and Flatbread: A perfect complement to the dips and spreads.
We got two flatbreads with our order. This was perfect for tearing, sharing and dipping between the three of us.
While there are only two Cheese Samboussek – handmade pastry parcels filled with melted cheese and mind, see image below and two crispy Falafel – chickpea patties with coriander and parsley, we shared the between the three of us. You can of course order more from the Mezze section of the menu if you wish.
The Star of the Show: Mixed Grill
For the main course, the Mixed Grill is a must-order. It’s a carnivore’s dream, offering a selection of perfectly seasoned and grilled meats:
- Lebanese Wings: Juicy chicken wings marinated in lemon, garlic, and onion, paired with a cinnamon-garlic sauce.
- Lamb Kofta: Tender ground lamb mixed with spices, served with a fresh Comptoir Salad and vermicelli rice.
- Chicken Taouk: Grilled chicken breast marinated with garlic and thyme, also served with salad and vermicelli rice.
This dish is a balanced mix of protein and fresh, zesty sides, leaving you satisfied but not overly full.
A Sweet Finale: Baklava Selection
No Middle Eastern meal is complete without dessert, and the Baklava Selection delivers a sweet ending. Each piece is a bite-sized treat of layered pastry, nuts, and fragrant syrup that pairs wonderfully with a cup of their signature mint tea.
