Soyful’s Kitchen in Midsomer Norton, Radstock, has quickly become a buzzworthy destination for food enthusiasts craving a taste of authentic and innovative Indian cuisine. Located on the first floor of the Holly Court, the building itself may not look like much especially when the staircase have seen better days and most if not all other units in Holly Court are vacant. However, upon entering the restaurant, you are immediately taken by an inviting atmosphere and modern touches throughout. The with comfortable furnishing and minimalist decor complemented by soft, ambient lighting, set the stage for a delightful dining experience.
The head chef at Soyful’s Kitchen, Chef Soyful Alom, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for regional Indian flavors. His expertise is evident in every dish that arrives at the table, beautifully presented and crafted with precision. Chef Alom is known for his creative flair and insistence on using high-quality, fresh ingredients, which shines through in the menu’s bold and authentic flavours.
Starters
Lamb Chops
Starting with the appetizers, the Lamb Chops are a must-try. Marinated in a blend of spices that enhance but do not overpower the succulent meat, these chops are grilled to a perfect char and served with a mint chutney that complements the richness of the lamb.
Fish Amritsar
Equally impressive is the Fish Amritsar; delicately battered fish, fried until golden and crisp, yet tender inside, served with a tangy tamarind sauce that tingles the palate.
Beyond the celebrated Lamb Chops and Fish Amritsar, Soyful’s Kitchen offers an array of other starter options that promise to excite and tantalize. For a vegetarian delight, the Paneer Tikka stands out, featuring cubes of soft, marinated paneer grilled to golden perfection, imbued with the smoky flavor of the tandoor. Seafood lovers might gravitate towards the Tandoori Prawns, marinated in a special blend of spices and cooked until they are perfectly succulent. For those looking for something uniquely comforting, the Samosa Chaat, with its combination of crunchy samosas topped with chickpeas, yogurt, and tangy chutneys, offers a deliciously textured experience. Each starter at Soyful’s Kitchen is carefully designed to showcase the versatility and range of Indian appetizers.
Mains
Chicken Shimla Mirch
The mains are a grand showcase of the chef’s prowess. The Chicken Shimla Mirch, from the special menu, features tender chicken enveloped in a vibrant bell pepper sauce with hints of coriander and cumin, offering a satisfying heat that is both comforting and invigorating. We did ask for an extra hot variety so could not say what the typical heat would be like.
Lucknow e Batak
The Lucknow e Batak, a luxurious duck dish, is a celebration of Lucknow’s famed culinary heritage, with the duck perfectly pan seared and accompanied by a subtly spiced, rich gravy called the Brown Lucknow sauce and sautéed greens that enhances the natural flavors of the duck. The dish also came with a small pot of curry to go with your rice or naan bread. It paired well with the Tandoori Roti that I ordered.
Lamb Dum Biryani
From the Biryani mains, the Lamb Dum Biryani is a fragrant treasure trove. The rice, aromatic with spices and saffron, is layered with marinated lamb that has been cooked to tender perfection. However, while there is a yogurt and chopped vegetable mix (raita), the Biryani did not come with an accompanying vegetable curry which is a given at most Indian restaurants. We ordered a side of chick pea curry or Tarka Dal to share.
Lamb Balti with Pilau Rice
The Lamb Balti is equally commendable, with its robust tomato and onion gravy brimming with garam masala and finished with a touch of lemon juice for some zest.
In addition to the signature dishes from the special and classic menus, Soyful’s Kitchen also presents a variety of other main course delights that cater to a range of tastes. We wish we could try them all. Perhaps on our return visit. A friend of ours did order Chicken Korai, sometimes known as Karahi Chicken Curry, which is off menu but we did not have a photo of this.
Spot on Presentation
The food presentation at Soyful’s Kitchen is impeccable. Each dish is served in flat plates and crockery, thoughtfully chosen to enhance the visual appeal. This attention to detail ensures that the visual experience matches the culinary excellence.
