Slim Chickens on a Budget: How to save money and still enjoy your favourite chicken

Who doesn’t love the crispy, juicy fried chicken from Slim Chickens? Known for their mouth-watering chicken tenders, wings, and delectable sides, Slim Chickens has become a go-to spot for fried chicken lovers. But with cost or dining out going up-up-up, how do you enjoy Slim Chickens on a budget without compromising on your favourites.

First order of business, to save yourself money is to look for value. Buying individual meals will fewer pieces will cost way more when dining out as a group. Getting a bigger meal is much better value as you will see below. Get someone to share it and you will save money big time. Then there is are the sides especially portions of tender or portions of wings. If you are just there for the chicken, consider these over the meals. You may not get the fries, soft drink and toast but who cares. When you are on a budget, every little helps. Also, we worked out the price per piece below so you get even better value.

1. For the love of Tender

If your favourite is the classic chicken tender, the 3 piece tender meal is the cheapest but not the best value. In order to game the system, order this to share when dining in a group or two or three. Go for the Hungry Meal or 7 Tender Meal and the per piece price goes down to just over 2.00 versus 3.30 compared to the Classic Meal (3 Tender). There is even more savings to be had compared to buying two Classic Meals just for 2 x 3 piece. You can fight between yourselves for who gets that final piece or split it in half in the spirit of sharing.

2. Top up with Tender Sides

And, if there is not enough Tenders to go around, add 5 more for the price of 1.69 each from the Sides menu making a total of 12 pieces! Granted that you have to share the fries, house sauces and soft drink but that is a small price to pay with loads of savings to be had. See table below comparing the price of meals and per piece cost of each tender.

Plus, if you are really strapped for cash and just want to sink your teeth into those freshly fried crispy chicken tenders, you could consider just the Tender Sides. Forget the carbs (fries, bread and soda) and just focus on your proteins.

3. For the love of Wings

We see the same savings on their Crispy Wing Meals. The more prices of wings in the meal, the better its value. In fact, it is cheaper than the Tender Meals piece for piece. Pick the 10 pieces Crispy Wing Meals and see the price per piece driven down to around 1.40. That’s way cheaper and better value than the 7 piece Tender Meal. If you share this with a mate, you get 5 each, fries, toast, house sauces and bottomless soft drink.

4. Stack on the Wing Sides

And, just like the tenders, if 5 wings for each of you is not enough, stack up to 8 each with a side of 6 Wings. The value gets even better at only 1.15 per piece. Know this, at the end, having had 8 pieces of wings, you would still only pay just over 11 each.

Now, if you are on a super tight budget, you could just get the 6 pieces wing sides and don’t share this with anyone. It would only cost you 7.00 and you get your fill of Crispy Chicken Wings.

5. For the love of Tender and Wings

For the best of both worlds, share the 5 plus 5 Mix and Match Meal with a friend and enjoy the best of both Chicken Tenders and Wings in one sitting. This combination brings the price down to around 1.60 per piece of chicken. Now you may decide to stack up on wings or top up on tenders for a really full meal if 5 pieces of chicken doesn’t but it. You would still save, if you share the meal with another.

This is our recommended meal. It is what we order every time we visit Slim Chickens. We would top this up with more tenders or wings to share between the three of us.

6. Salad and Wraps Meals

Here is our selection of just over or under 12:00 for a full meal complete with seasoned fries and drink, except for the Salad Meal. That only comes with a soft drink.

Of the two cheapest Wrap Meals on the menu, the Buffalo Wrap is our favourite for its tasty smothered chicken tender, shaken in Buffalo sauce. All Wrap Meals come with seasoned fries and soft drink. While it is not on the list, you may get a house sauce to go with your fries if you ask nicely.

7. Sandwich Meals

As for best value Sandwich Meals, we recommend  the Classic Chicken Sandwich Meal or the Honey BBQ Sandwich Meal. Personally, I would pay a bit more for the Honey BBQ Sandwich Meal simply because I love pickles and cannot resist the cheese. Again, both Sandwich Meals come with seasoned fries, house sauces and soft drink.

If I am dining alone and on an absolute budget, I would pick the Buffalo Wrap Meal. The tangy sauce gets my vote over house ranch any day. It has a bit of spice to it but not too much and you also get a taste of the house ranch in the lettuce.

8. Upgrade Your Bottomless Soft Drink

Not one for fizzy soda? Upgrade to a hands-spun shake for a small 2.50 fee with your meal. You get what is normally 5.50 at less than half the price. Plus, there are so many options to choose from; Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Caramel, Popcorn, Oreo, Lotus Biscoff, Cadbury Flake and Crunchy. Yes, you are topping up and paying more, but it beats paying full price for a milkshake any day.

Finally, don’t forget to scan your apps and collect loyalty points to claim your free chicken. Nothing beats FREE so make every visit count. Remember, sharing is saving and the bigger the meal, the better the value. If you are dining with friends, ask one of them if he or she would like to share a big meal, and both of you stand to save especially on the Crispy Tenders and Chicken Wings.
