When on the mainland, check out Pentagon 5 Studio in Raja Uda, Butterworth. Located in the Butterworth Business City Centre, there are plenty of competition about. While some businesses failed after being hit by COVID, this one survived and is thriving. If you are after some creative Western Food, you can’t go wrong with Pentagon 5 Studio.
We had a delightful experience during out visit to Pentagon 5. This isn’t our first nor will it be our last. In part because this place holds good memories for us. Some of the best celebrations and gatherings we had as a family was at Pentagon 5 Studio.
The vast menu offering includes Western, Italian, fusion, salads and fancy sides. There is also grilled fish dishes like grilled salmon and seabass as well as fish and chip.
The Food – What we ordered

Honey Glazed Pork Ribs
Honey glazed and grilled pork ribs served with waffle fries, generous mixed salad and grilled corns. While this is great as a main course, we ordered this to share. The separated pork ribs meant we can each dig in and get our fingers sticky. The glaze was flavourful and had the right consistency. Each piece of the rib is evenly coated with the glaze and the meat just falls off the bone.
The Honey Glazed Pork Ribs were succulent and flavorful, with a perfect balance of sweetness and smokiness. The waffle fries were crispy and a great complement to the ribs, while the grilled corn added a nice charred sweetness.
Shiitake Crispy Chicken

The Shiitake Crispy Chicken stood out with its crunchy exterior and tender interior. The shiitake mushrooms added a unique umami flavor, and the accompanying fries and mixed salad rounded out the dish nicely.
Grilled Chicken
The Grilled Chicken main is a large piece of grilled chicken, a deboned whole thigh and drum served on a bed of mashed potatoes and seasoned vegetables with red wine mushroom sauce. We find the sauce on the grilled chicken slightly different to that on our Summer Grill below. The sauce here is tastier. This could be because it was added in the kitchen over the freshly grilled chicken while the Summer Grill has its sauce on the side. Even the gravy and sauce in the Summer Grill tasted slightly different.
Carbonara
Our order of pasta carbonara is huge to say the least. Not sure if it is the typical size but was enough to share between our party. The pasta was cooked perfectly and there are enough ham, bacon and mushroom around with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
The Carbonara was rich and creamy, featuring a generous amount of bacon and mushrooms. The sauce was well-seasoned, making each bite satisfying. A great choice for pasta lovers.
Spaghetti Carbonara – Creamy spaghetti with bacon, onion, shiitake mushroom and parmesan cheese.
Summer Grill
Unless you have a big appetite or a friend or partner willing to share with you, the Summer Grill is a worth while order. It is basically a combination of both grilled pork chop and grilled chicken on one plate. These are available to order separately as you can see from our order of Grilled Chicken above.
Similar to the Grilled Chicken, the Summer Grill was expertly cooked. The flavors were robust, and the mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables served as perfect sides, making it a hearty meal.
The juicy chicken thigh and grilled pork chop are chunky and big. Served with seasoned vegetables and mashed potatoes with a side of red wine mushroom sauce and extra gravy on the pork and chicken, it is a truly delicious and satisfying dish even for two.
White Sauce Crispy Chicken Burger
The White Sauce Crispy Chicken Burger was a pleasant surprise. The crispy chicken patty was juicy, and the white sauce added a creamy, tangy element that enhanced the overall flavor.
Homemade fried crispy chicken thigh cutlet with cheddar cheese, fresh tomatoes, Japanese cucumber and green lettuce served with creamy mushroom sauce cradled between two charcoal buns.
We noticed a slight variation to our white sauce burger in that it is topped with a slice of grilled pineapple ring. We don’t see this in the menu image or description but is a welcome addition.
We also note that all their battered and fried chicken are based on their signature batter with added whole oats to give it that extra crunch.
Salted Egg Yolk Crispy Chicken Burger
Homemade fried crispy chicken thigh cutlet with cheddar cheeses, fresh tomatoes, green lettuce, cucumber slices with salted egg yolk sauce on charcoal burger buns. The burgers come with a side of French fries as standard. The salted egg yolk sauce is smooth and not powdering which can happen when not prepared properly.
The Salted Egg Yolk Crispy Chicken Burger was a standout with its rich, salty yolk flavor. The crispy chicken was well-executed, and the salted egg yolk sauce provided an indulgent, savory twist.

Fish and Chip
The dish – a crispy battered fish and chips served with homemade tartar sauce. I left this main for last in our list as it is a least favourite. For start, the portion was small. Granted that it is the lowest priced main in the Surf and Turf section but it is still disappointing as there is little care in its presentation and lack of side. Garden peas or mushy peas are normally served with fish and chip. If that is hard to come by locally, perhaps some green salad but all we got was a small tomato split into half.
Sides
We ordered two sides. The first being the sweet potato fries. This they got right, with the right amount of crispiness on the outside and soft fluffy insides. This is served with homemade Thai mayo sauce.
The Sweet Potato Fries were a great side option, offering a sweet and savory contrast to the main dishes. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just as they should be.
Caramelised Pork Slices in Bao Bun
The other side is the Caramelised Pork Slices Bao Buns that we were going to share given that there are five on a plate. It isn’t sold as a side as such, more as a main. The caramelised pork slices bao buns looks saucy and delicious. However, we had to take this home as we were all full and couldn’t finish after our birthday celebration cake.
We thought the orders got ‘mixed up’ causing this to come way after all our mains. We did ask the waitress to chase the kitchen something we come to regret later. Going back to the menu, we noticed that it does say this dish requires a longer preparation time, so maybe they did not mess up our orders after all. It just took a long time to prepare the dish. You’ve been warned. Be patient and be prepared to wait it out.

The Caramelised Pork Slices in Bao Bun were a delightful mix of sweet and savory. The pork was tender and flavorful, and the bao buns were soft and fluffy, making for a deliciously unique appetiser.
Gallery of Interior
The dining area is spread over two floors. On the ground floor is a lounge and dining area while upstairs is a wide open space with big tables to accommodate big groups and family.
Overall it was a great dining experience with good food to share with family.
Pentagon 5 Studio offers a well-rounded menu with something for everyone. The attention to detail in each dish is commendable, and the flavors are consistently impressive. The ambiance is welcoming, and the service is attentive, making it a great spot for a satisfying meal.
We highly recommend to anyone looking to enjoy a variety of well-prepared Western dishes in a comfortable setting.
