The bold, vibrant art adds a modern edge, while the high-backed chairs and well-lit space provide comfort and a touch of sophistication. It’s a setting that feels equally appropriate for a business lunch, a date night, or an intimate dinner with friends.
What We Ordered
The menu at NOA is extensive, showcasing a variety of sushi, sashimi, and tempura dishes, as well as other Japanese favorites. For our visit, we opted for a mix of small plates and sushi rolls to get a well-rounded taste of what the restaurant offers:
1. Vegetable Tempura (6 pieces)
Light and crispy, the tempura batter was perfectly executed, allowing the freshness of the vegetables to shine through. Each piece was golden and airy, with a satisfying crunch that wasn’t overly greasy—a classic done right.
2. Chef Selection Sashimi (20 pieces)
This platter was a highlight of our meal. Featuring an assortment of salmon, tuna, surf clam, octopus, and scallop, the sashimi was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. The delicate slices melted in the mouth, particularly the scallops, which were sweet and buttery. A feast for the eyes and the palate. We have taken several photos of the dish, from different angles for a closer look at the different fresh fish on offer.
3. Soft Shell Crab Roll (8 pieces)
This sushi roll delivered on all fronts. The crab tempura was warm and flavourful, contrasting nicely with the creamy avocado and the refreshing crunch of cucumber. The sesame seeds and nori tied the flavours together, making this a must-try for sushi enthusiasts.
4. Salmon Masago Roll (8 pieces)
Simple yet satisfying, this roll showcased the quality of NOA’s ingredients. The salmon was tender, and the masago added a pleasant burst of flavor and texture. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something light and traditional. Although, we would have enjoyed it better had the roll been bigger and covered in Masago instead of just sprinkled on top.
Service
The staff at NOA were attentive and knowledgeable, happy to recommend dishes and answer questions about the menu. Our orders arrived promptly, and the presentation of each dish was impeccable.
NOA Japanese is a gem in Clifton, offering a dining experience that is as much about artistry as it is about flavour. From the ultra-fresh sashimi to the inventive sushi rolls, every bite was a testament to the skill and care that goes into their craft. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or new to Japanese cuisine, NOA is well worth a visit.
