Housed in The Godolphin hotel, occupying what is essentially the main building, the Shutters Restaurant not only offers great food but an amazing view.
We tried to enter via the Hotel Reception, but were asked to try the main entrance pictured below even though the two were connected. We didn’t mind the least bit as we were greeted by the bar man, cosy seating area and two large dining area with amazing view of St. Michael’s Mount. More about the interior of the restaurant in our next article.
It is worth pointing out that we were there just after noon and had a choice of tables to choose from. It wasn’t long before the place was filled up. We were read the day’s special and orders were taken. It wasn’t long before we got our food too.
I had the days’ Special which was Haddock – Fish and Chips with Sea Salt Fries and Mushy Peas.
G had the Soup of the day which is Tomato and two slices of Focaccia bread.
While Li-ling had the Fisherman’s Pot which included Monkfish, Hake, Prawns (rather big ones too), Mussels (just as big), Chorizo and Potatoes in Tomato and Red Wine sauce. And yes, it sounded just as good as it tasted.
Here is another look at the Fisherman’s Pot.
If you love fish, other items on the menu you might like are St Austell Bay Mussels (Starter or Main) with Garlic Tomatoes and Saffron, St Ives Smoked Salmon Tartare (Starter), Prawn and Crayfish Cocktail (Starter) and Crispy Squid (Starter).
The Fish mains apart from the Fisherman’s Pot above are Cornish Sole baked while with almond romesco salsa and orange glazed greens, Cornish Crab Cakes Bois Boudrin with Burnt Baby Leeks and Anchovy Mayo and Pan Seared Sea Bass Fillet with Wild Mushrooms, Spinach, Tarragon and Cream.
If fish is not your thing, there are plenty to choose from under the Plats and Grill section. They included the 12 Hour Pork Tomahack, Sirloin Steak, Slow Roast Local Lamb Shoulder, Pot Roast Chicken and The Godolphin Burger. The latter is a double stacked, dual beef patty burger with the works, cheddar, smoked bacon, pickles, smoke ketchup, lettuce and tomato served on sesame seeded bun accompanied with fries.
