Fish Mongers in Newlyn: Where to buy fresh fish

With Newlyn being the largest fishing port in the south-west of Cornwall, it is almost impossible not to be tempted by the vast choice of fish and shellfish to buy and take home or to your holiday destination. Just on the Strand next to the Newlyn Harbour market are at least three fish mongers selling the fresh catch of the day. A further two shops selling shellfish near Newlyn Cinema on the Coombe.

We visited W Harvey & Sons, Fresh Cornish Fish, Stevenson W & Sons and Trelawney Fish for some Cornish fish and shellfish during just outside of Penzance. We got lobsters, crabs, giant tiger prawns, plaice, skate wings and scallops.

It is well worth getting there just after opening hours or mid-morning for the largest choice of fish and shellfish. Hop between the shops like we did. If you can’t find what you want from one, chances are the other shops will have them. Also, there is nothing wrong with asking for the prices as each cut, fish or shellfish is priced by weight.
